Fluids, Materials, and Biology

June 13 - June 15

This workshop will be focused on three main areas: fluid-structure interactions, biolocomotion, and active matter, which are quite naturally connected but where the opportunity to interact has been somewhat limited. Researchers in all of these fields may converge at very large meetings, in particular at the American Physical Society – Division of Fluid Dynamics annual meeting and the APS March Meeting, but there are no regular small meetings so workshops are particularly valuable.

We envision a broad and lively discussion of all the theoretical developments, analytical and computational methodologies, and new applications. We aim to bring together mathematicians and biologically-minded engineers who are dealing with such materials from a practical standpoint, and with fluid mechanicians researching flow problems using analytical and computational tools. Ample time will be allotted during the workshop for free and open discussions, where mathematicians and scientists/engineers can connect and develop common research
